Some classes use online forums to enable discussions among students. ELO also uses these forums as a means for students to ask for help regarding our recordings or Blackboard Learn. These instructions will explain how to create forums and discussions (or "threads") within the forums.

How to Create a Forum

1. Navigate to the Discussion Board for the appropriate class.
  • Select the appropriate class from the course list on Blackboard Learn.
  • Click "Discussions" on the left side of the screen.

2. Click on the "Create Forum" button.
  • Forum is a way to organize discussions into a topic

3. Enter the following information into the form:
  • Forum Information
    • Name: Title of the forum (For example: Week 1)
    • Description: Brief description of the forum (The questions are to be answered prior to your next class.)
  • Forum Availability
    • Available: Yes
  • Forum Settings
    • Please go through the options and select as required.

4. Press the "Submit" button.


How to Create a Thread

1. Click on the desired forum name.

2. Click the "Create Thread" button.
  • A thread is series of posts related to same idea with any forum.

3. Enter the following information into the form:
  • Message
    • Subject: Title of the thread (For example : Question 1)
    • Message: Type in the question 1 in here.

4. Click the "Submit" button.

Important Notes:

  • Each question should be posted as a new thread.
  • Please do not copy and paste directly from a word processor into Blackboard Learn. If you have any text that needs to be copy pasted, please past the text into a plain text document to strip out formatting and style information, then copy the stripped text and paste that into Blackboard.
